Kiwi UFC Fighter Riddell Suffers A First Round Submission

Updated: Nov 17, 2022

Turner locks in a tight guillotine choke in full mount.

On Saturday 2nd July, Kiwi UFC Lightweight Brad "Quake" Riddell has been defeated in a first-round submission by Jalin "The Tarantula" Turner at UFC 276 in Las Vegas.

Fighting on the prelims of UFC 276, Riddell was submitted by a guillotine choke 45 seconds into the first round to Turner. Turner used his height and reach advantage over Riddell to deliver long straights, applying damage whilst avoiding it simultaneously.

Turner applied constant pressure, landing a lightning-fast cross and a powerful lead uppercut. Riddell went low to secure a takedown however Turner capitalised and shot for a guillotine choke. Turner got into full mount, flattened him out, and proceeded to tighten his squeeze around Riddell's neck, leading him to tap out.

UFC 275 saw Riddell's second only loss in his UFC career, looking back to his loss against Rafael Fiziev in December last year.

Turner's victory over Riddell marks his fifth win fight streak in his UFC career. Turner's impressive submission work and first round victory could earn him a potential bout against #13 ranked Lightweight fighter and fellow Kiwi, Dan Hooker, later this year.
